Not really about the thread topic, but I don't think it's worth it's own.

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SIRIUS XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI - News) announced today that it will launch Second City Comedy Radio, a two-day channel celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic improvisational comedy theatre.

The limited-run channel will premiere on Saturday, December 12 at 12:01 am ET, coinciding with the weekend-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Second City theatre's founding in Chicago.

Second City Comedy Radio will be backstage all weekend with access to all of the reunion events held at The Second City theatre in Chicago, where alumni from every generation of Second City will reunite, including Stephen Colbert, Martin Short, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas, Jim Belushi, Steve Carell, Dan Castellaneta, Jeff Garlin, Isabella Hoffman, Richard Kind, Robert Klein, Jack McBrayer, Harold Ramis, Horatio Sanz, George Wendt and Fred Willard.

The channel will also feature various sketches from stage shows from the past fifty years, including "Picasso's Moustache" from 1971, "Peace and Serenity" from 1969, "To the Water Tower" from 1963, "My Friend Art is Dead" from 1962 and "Survival Kit" from 1982. Listeners will also hear contemporary sketches, many of which originated from Second City, including Chris Farley's "Van Down By the River" bit and Rachel Dratch's "Wicked" sketch.

Mel was on Charlie Rose the other night talking all things Sirius/XM. I can't seem to link the video directly. Click on recent shows, Mel appeared Dec. 30th. If you want to skip all the financial BS about staying out of bankruptcy, skip to 13:50 where he talks about Howard.

I saw that earlier. I guess I'll watch it now since there's no Bubba replay to hear.

Any chance you can rename this thread the "Sirius XM News" thread? I think there might be some in the next year. I pretty much commandeered it as such already.

Or someone could start another one in the appropriate forum. Which one would that be?

Done. With Howard's negotiations coming up, the whole Bubba thing, and the mounting debt and subscriber loss issues it'll be a year to watch.

Starting on February 9th, DirecTV subscribers will find that their XM satellite radio channels will have disappeared - and have been replaced with channels from SonicTap, according to DirecTV's website.

Now, why is this more strange than "the usual" content distribution deal gone bad?
For one thing, Liberty Media (which has a 40 percent stake in Sirius XM Radio Inc.) also owns DirecTV - so you think there would be a baked in partnership between the two. But not so.

On February 29th, 2010, SonicTap will be the new source of music for 18 million DirecTV subscribers. The lineup of genres will remain relatively the same - but with one exception.

The one large notable difference is that there's some 10 more Hispanic music channels added in addition to the other channels. Could this have been the deciding factor for the change? It's hard to say for sure, but I can't imagine why both Liberty-owned companies would part ways unless there was a clear differentiator between the two.

Then again, who knows what kind of reasoning is behind the switch. It would be nice to see some level of transparency to explain to subscribers why exactly the change is happening... but I'm not holding my breath.

I guess Howard doesn't exaggerate as bad as I thought.

Quote:
NEW YORK, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SIRIUS XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) today announced the results of an Arbitron study of satellite radio subscribers conducted in October and November 2009 that found listenership is larger than previously estimated and scores much higher on key demographic criteria compared to the general population and AM/FM radio listeners.

Arbitron's study showed that more than 35 million total adult listeners tune in to SIRIUS XM, 32 million of which are weekly listeners.

The study found SIRIUS XM listeners prefer satellite radio over other audio options available to them. Respondents indicated that the percent of total time spent listening to audio in general is 62% to SIRIUS XM, 16% to AM/FM, 4% to streaming internet, and 10% of the time using mobile devices.
