Pros and Cons of Camp

- Limas Sweed is looking good as is free agent receiver Shaun McDonald from the Rams / Lions. Both will be fighting for the no. 3 receiver position.
- Mike Wallace from Ole Miss is a burner, the coaches said he has what other teams call oh shit speed, he is abusing all of the DBs on the team as a vertical threat.
- Undrafted free agent guard from Tenn. / Ramon Foster is turning heads. They like his nasty demeanor, he finishes off blocks and has caused quite a stir amongst the Steelers no.1 defensive team. Good news considering the teams trubbbles along the line the past few years.
- Keenan Lewis a rookie (DB) from Oregon St. possess the size and athleticism of Ike Taylor but has hands. He is rookie so learnin on the field will be his mantra.
- Rashard Mendenhall is looking like the bell cow he was drafted to be.
- Keyaron Fox, a special teams demon is looking flu-int and stout an the "buck" inside linebacker.
- Trai Essex is battling Kraig Urbick (heated comp.)for the RG position now that Darnell Stapleton is out for the season with a knee injury.
- Brett Kiesel is making his usual athletic plays as a stand up linebacker in the 2-4-5 defense.
- Frank "The Tank" Summers, supposed short yardage specialist was blow up by William Gay on a run play. Coaches screamed "put your shoulder pads down!". He listened is knowing his rule and picking up the short yardage. The coaches are scheming for Summers to get the ball in the flats / flare area of the football filed to get him open in spaced for a mismatch to run over little DBs.
- Bruce Davis the second year pass rusher from UCLA looks like "another guy" , too finesse for the Steelers style.
- Tony Hillis comes as big disappointment so far and they need him to provide depth at tackle.
- Center Justin Hartwig is out with a broken toe but the Steelers love Doug Legursky and really, really lurve AQ Shipley at center. Shipley can long snap to boot.
- Lamar Woodley had some swelling in his knee today but further reports are nothing is seriously injured.

Mike Wallace and Keenan Lewis grew up together and played for the same high school football team in Louisiana. They have been friends with one another for most of their lives, and now they were drafted by the same team.

I smell another Superbowl!! Steelers vs. Cardinals next Thurs. on ESPN at 8:00 p.m.

Training Camp Thoughts.

- Six Super Bowl trophies were present. Fans could take pics with the trophies if they felt like doing so.
- Deshea is one of the kewlest dudes, ever. Very personable.
- Max Starks is still a giant, quite the funny character.
- All Steeler fans are hospitable, cept when Ben is signing his John Hancock.
- Ben threw a pic 6 to Troy on his first pass. He was 0-3, then after that the big guy was zipping the ball everywhere. He had a pass which replicated the game winning super bowl catch to San Antonio. This time he hit one of the tight ends. Ben was throwing darts baby.
- Dallas Baker was hammered on a catch, afterwards Dallas was complaining for a good portion. Ben followed suit captain style for Dallas, giving the wide-out a talk and security.
- Mike Wallace was really impressive, the speed is electrifying, he has hands to boot. Shaun McDonald had a couple of nice snags out of the air and Limas Sweed was catching everything. Good bye Dallas Baker.
- I was really impressed by Tyler Grisham, the little guy catches everything, showing some wiggle and quicks in the slot. I doubt he'll make the team but I would like to see this kid remain on the practice squad.
- Frank "The Tank" had a nice bull dozing run. He kept his pads low, chug...chug.
- Mendenhall was pinballing about, he looks focused.
- Stefan Logan fumbled a punt return. Logan, McDonald and Holmes all handled punt return duties. No Joe Burnett???
- Shipley looked athletic at center, good technique and a worker. Foster is nasty.
- Chaz Batch's armed looked lively, Heath Miller snagged a pass down the seam from Chaz.
- Ziggy Hood is a freak in the same manner as Timmons. The dude is freakishly athletic and quick. I have never witnessed a guy that big with so much athleticism.
- Timmons, yeah, he is going to have a monster year.
- I'm not a fan of Frazier at ROLB for Wood. Dang, would have been nice to see Bruce Davis develop into something and still looks like another guy.
- Keenan Lewis, love this playa. He looks fluid and fast.
- William Gay is playing at a top notch level.
- I will never miss James Farrior chirping every play, he makes the sounds of camp such a joy.
- Someone tell Tyrone Carter he should be on the roster this year too. I don't see Ryan Mundy beating Ty out as the third safety. Ty can hit.
- James Harrison strength and tenacity has its own "league".

If you noticed how the Steelers played most of the 1st team for 2 1/2 quarters of the game. All NFL teams play their starters for the duration of the third preseaon game, this is the game they start getting ready as a methodical and cohesive unit for the start of the season. They measure how they look on both sides of the ball at this point and make necessary adjustments. Game 1,2 and 4 are more for the rookies and players trying to make their respective squads.

- The steelers are playing Shipley less. This is a tactical move, they do this so they can cut the player and sign him to the practice squad to develop for a year. They like him but they don't need him until next year. The downfall of cutting a player is he can chose to leave, so you are taking a chance if you don't make the player apart of the 53 man roster. The upside, if you lose the player the Steelers could hoard any cut player and try to sign them to their practice squad. I fear they may cut Sonny Harris and Redman to follow suit on the practice squad.

- Summers. Any rookie (picked rounds 4-7) or player trying to make a team who falls victim to the injury bug kills there chances to make the team.
